So, it's been a little while since I've written anything here... We've been busy. Here's what's new. Our first shipment of knives has arrived (as many of you already know). We now have our Shigefusas in stock. We will be posting pictures and putting the knives up for sale shortly. Also, out second shipment is in customs in LA. That means that, within a few days, we should have Kaneshige Hamono's knives in stock as well. We've also redesigned the website... again. In testing our last site, we found that customers would be able to buy and pay for knives that we didn't have in stock, so that has been fixed in the new version. We are also trying to add more info about each of the makers we carry. As always, we would love to know what you think.
One of the things we have been so busy with is finding and contacting new makers. The last time I posted here, we had contacted over 40 makers. Well, that number has risen to over 50. And we are getting positive responses from many of them. Through this process we are trying to create a balance in the items we carry. In addition to the more expensive items (like the Shigefusas), we are trying to pick up knives that offer great value to our clients. After all, not everyone wants to (or can afford to) learn about Japanese knives with only a Shigefusa in hand. Can you imagine the scratches? Finding these great values can be challenging, as there are certain tradeoffs I am not willing to make. For example, I refuse to order knives with plastic ferrules or otherwise inferior handles. But there are some promising leads and we will be following them up.
So, we will keep you posted as new orders are placed and new orders arrive. Please take some time to check out the site over the next few days as new items come up for sale.
