The Gesshin Damascus Yanagiba is made of a cobalt-based stainless steel heat-treated to about 61hrc. This steel sharpens very easily for its hardness, with the added benefit over other single bevel knives in that it is relatively tough and corrosion-resistant.
For our Instagram special, we have etched the blade to bring out a deeper contrast on the damascus cladding and core steel, rounded and polished the spine and choil for maximum comfort, engraved the saya with an image of the vasculature of a maple leaf and did a full sharpening of the bevel to improve performance and remove the high spots.
