These handheld graters are designed to grate, mince, and puree foods like garlic, ginger, daikon, etc. They are made of a solid piece of copper and coated in tin and the tines are gouged by hand through the use of special tools. The double-sided oroshigane has a coarse and fine side.
To collect the food from the surface, the tines can be brushed with a hake. To clean the oroshigane, rinse with warm water and soap and pat dry. Do not put in the dishwasher. The exposed copper will begin to oxidize and develop a patina with normal use.
