Accessibility Statement

Japanese Knife Imports wants every customer to be able to browse, learn about, and buy our knives — including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, or other assistive technology.

Conformance status

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. This site is currently partially conformant, which means parts of it do not yet fully meet that standard. The issues we know about are listed below, and we are working through them.

The WCAG guidelines are the international benchmark for web accessibility. They ask that content be:

  • Perceivable — information and interface elements must be presented in ways people can perceive.
  • Operable — interface elements and navigation must be operable, including by keyboard.
  • Understandable — information and how the site works must be understandable.
  • Robust — content must work reliably with assistive technologies.

As of this date, we know about the following barriers on our site:

  • The optional add-on checkboxes on some product pages, which come from a third-party app, have no labels, so screen readers announce them only as “checkbox.” We have asked the provider to correct this.
  • Our cookie consent banner, also from a third party, does not support closing with the Escape key on its own. We have added our own fix so that Escape closes it, and we have asked the provider to correct the underlying code.
  • Some product image descriptions are being rewritten for accuracy. Every image has a description, but not all of them are as clear or precise as we want.

Improving accessibility is ongoing work. We fix these issues as we are able, and we update this list as we go.

Recently fixed

Since our last review we have corrected heading order across collection, product, search and content pages; removed empty links from collection pages; and given the product filter controls proper names for screen readers.

How we test

We run automated accessibility scans of our site regularly and review the results. Automated testing cannot catch everything, so reports from the people using our site matter to us.

If any part of this site keeps you from finding or buying what you need, please tell us and we will help you directly — including taking your order by phone or email. We aim to reply within two business days.

Accessibility tools on this site

We use a third-party accessibility widget that lets visitors adjust settings such as contrast and text size. It is a convenience for visitors, not a substitute for building the site properly, and we are correcting the underlying code as we find problems.
