Bamboo Hake

There is an unspoken code of preservation of artwork amongst street artists. This respect is given to the artists simply by giving ample time for the casual passerby to enjoy its colorful existence on various surfaces. This ritual has persevered and dominated the streets since the 1970's. 

These sticker designs are a culmination of years of studying the graffiti culture of Los Angeles throughout the decades. While some see graffiti art as a nuisance, I see it as a celebration of culture through color and design. The vibrant colors and 3D images can be found throughout the city, often in hidden and understated spaces.

Tawashi (タワシ) is a Japanese scrubbing brush, used to wash off dirt, grime, and stains. Because the Tawashi is hard, durable and waterproof, it is suitable for washing kitchen equipment, bathrooms, shoes, and anything else that does not get damaged by this kind of bristle.  The bristles are softer than the metal in kitchen knives, so it can also work well for cleaning off knives and handles. It should not be used for delicate soft items. Initially when tawashi came to market, they were made from a specific kind of palm bristle (Trachycarpus).  However around the end of the Taisho era and the beginning of Showa era, the Trachycarpus palm became scarce, and other types of palm began to replace it.

We recommend tawashi for cleaning off your pots and pans, knives, and hands.  They also look very cool ;)

Saibashi(菜箸) are long chopsticks for cooking, serving, and/or plating.  Saibashi are usually much longer than chopsticks used for eating.  The length of saibashi protect the hands from injury while cooking.  Also the length helps chefs when plating and serving by extending their reach.  

Saibashi are usually made from bamboo or untreated/un-coated natural wood without for durability.

Saibashi are an indispensable tool for japanese cooking, but can also be very useful in western cuisine.
