Okudono Suita Koppa #2

  •  This koppa has a range of yellow tints and shades with a slight pink haze dispersed across the surface. There is a bit of renge. This is a very hard stone and not very porous, so it will hold water on the surface very well. It leaves very fine scratches that come close to a mirror polish, but with a bit of white haziness. It works really well in conjuction with a nagura stone to increase the cutting speed. This stone is so hard I find that it works well for uraoshi sharpening.

Natural stones from this region are rich in silica, which acts as a main abrasive. The potential finish can improve with extended sharpening, with results depending on the stone hardness, the pressure you use during sharpening, water, etc.

This stone should be used like a splash and go stone... add just enough water to lubricate the surface, but not too much.  The goal is to develop mud, so keeping the surface very wet is prohibitive to mud development.
