Covid-19 Changes

Japanese Knife Imports will resume in-store shopping on Monday, July 19th, 2021.  Upon reopening, we will be requiring masks for all customers, regardless of vaccination status.  If you do not have a mask, one will be provided for you.  Sharpening services are still on hold for the time being, but we expect to resume basic sharpening services soon.  Due to the current workload we are experiencing, custom saya work and more major sharpening jobs (i.e. major chip repairs, thinning and refinishing, mirror polishing, etc.) are temporarily suspended.  We do not have a clear ETA for when we expect to resume these, but we do not anticipate resuming in the immediate future for now. We are still adapting to the ever-changing situation in Los Angeles, and as such, there may be delays in e-mail responses and possibly with orders shipping (though we are doing everything we can to fulfill orders as quickly as possible).  Additionally, all shipping services are experiencing delays, and most are suspending their delivery guarantees.  If your order is taking longer to arrive that expected, please let us know and we will follow up with the shipping company.  It may take some time for us to resolve shipping issues (please read our terms and conditions for more info on this). We appreciate your patience and understanding.

 

As of Friday July 15th, 2021, here is our more recent COVID19 update.  As mentioned above, our storefront will be opening for in-store shopping on Monday, July 19th, 2021, and we will be requiring masks for all customers in the store.  In the meantime, we have contactless pickup available as an option for local customers placing orders online.  Our shipping for online orders is proceeding normally.  Shortly after the reopening of our store, we plan to resume some sharpening services, and will likely be doing that by appointment, to better control workflow and keep turnaround times quick.  For the time being, some services (major repairs, mirror finishing, custom saya making, etc.) are temporarily suspended.  Please bear through this time.  We are doing our best to keep things running smoothly and keep our customers, staff, and respective families and communities as safe as possible.

Our Hours of Operation are currently:

  • Monday-Friday- 11am - 6pm
  • Saturday & Sunday- Closed
As a function of health and safety during this time, our entire team here has been fully vaccinated and we continue to employ the best safety practices we can, using the most up-to-date information available to us.  We will be asking all people who enter the store to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.  If you do not have a mask, we would be happy to provide one for you.

    For any customers looking to mail in knives for sharpening or repair, when those services resume, please contact us before sending anything in or dropping things off (our knife sharpening service is limited and by appointment only).  We have a process for managing these things and will not be able to accept any work that does not follow these directions.  For more information, feel free to call us or e-mail us (see below for that info).
