  • This Monzento is on the medium hardness side of things for monzento (which is still a softer stone), and seems to soak up a bit of water in the beginning.  It fits firmly in the medium grit range (maybe in the 1000-2000 range).  Its a very muddy stone, and leaves a very smooth and even finish, with nice contrast.  There are visible scratches in the scratch pattern, but they are indicative of the grit range.  The contrast it leaves is VERY nice.  The tactile feedback was also very nice.

Natural stones from this region are rich in silica, which acts as a main abrasive. The potential finish can improve with extended sharpening, with results depending on the stone hardness, the pressure you use during sharpening, water, etc.

This stone should be used like a splash and go stone... add just enough water to lubricate the surface, but not too much. The goal is to develop mud, so keeping the surface very wet is prohibitive to mud development.
