The Gesshin™ 400 Grit Sharpening Stone is hands down one of the best coarse stones I have ever used. I have been testing this stone for quite a while now and it really impressed me. With the exception of some of the most expensive stones I have, this stone is one of the best feeling and cutting stones in the coarse range I have had the pleasure of using. It works well on all types of steel I have tested it on, from simple carbons, to the most high tech and hard stainless steels. It cuts very quickly, leaves a nice finish, and has great feeling and feedback. Also, it does a pretty good job at resisting dishing. I have no problem jumping directly to a 2000 or 3000 grit stone directly from this stone. This stone needs to be soaked at least 15 minutes before use (30 or more is ideal). I leave mine in water all of the time, so it is ready to go whenever I need it. If you do leave your stone in water, please change the water regularly. When drying out this stone or any others, do so out of the sunlight in a well-ventilated area.
